ANTHONY BUTT

Anthony ButtYou could say our first inductee comes from a 'Golden Cross' breed. Both his grandfathers were deeply involved and hugely successful in harness racing, as were his parents. I'll come back to them in a minute.

Anthony was born in Canterbury in 1996 and educated at Templeton Primary School and later Lincoln High School.

He played a lot of rugby and captained Canterbury Country in age group tournaments and represented the South Island in an under-16 team.

He began his driving career in the 1983–84 season and at his third drive, drove his first winner.

In his first season of race driving, he was the NZ Junior Drivers Champion—a title he won on a second occasion.

He has driven 1,610 winners in New Zealand and 826 winners in Australia, including 100 Group wins in Australia and 50 in New Zealand.

He has trained 19 winners from 106 starters.

Our inductee is already a Member of the Interdominion Hall of Fame.

In 2014, our inductee moved to Victoria to further his career in the standardbred industry.

Our inductee has had significant success at a large number of Interdominion Pacing and Trotting Championships and other major races with horses such as Blossom Lady, Lyell Creek, Take a Moment, Happy Asset,

Mister DG, Foreal, Mr Feelgood, and Stunnin Cullen
to name a few.
